Virtual SIP Server.

Do you not have a SIP server but still want to provide VoIP or calling card service to your customers? We have a ready-to-use solution for you. Our VPS platform will allow you to manage your customers, their ATA devices and set call rates you charge the customers. The billing core is built with asterisk2billing open source software, visit the a2billing web site to find more information about a2billing capabilities and view the documentation. Please note - we provide you with a server with preinstalled components, but we will not do custom development for you.

Our VPS platform includes the following components:
  • Virtual linux server running on quad core Intel Xeon CPU, 1 dedicated public IP address.
  • Asterisk PBX and a2billing software with CWU trunk and our wholesale rate decks preconfigured (please keep in mind that the rates are out of date and are provided as an example only).
  • ztdummy timer accessible from within VPS.
  • Disk space to host your web site.
  • Full root ssh (Winscp) access to the server to upload your files and backup the server data.
The virtual server platform costs $30 to set up and has a $30 monthly fee.

NEW: Experimental VPS image with a2billing 1.7.1 is available. There will be no setup fee if you choose to use VPS with a2b 1.7.1. However, we do not provide support for a2b 1.7.1, use it at your own risk. Feedback is welcome to help us stabilize 1.7.1 VPS. Known issues:
  • Since all a2billing.conf settings are moved to database, it is impossible to replace many settings with the real VPS IP address during VPS setup. You need to replace http_server, https_server, http_server_agent and https_server_agent parameters with the real VPS IP address or DNS name. Otherwice, customer payments will not work.
  • LCR is broken (like in any stock version of a2billing). If you use multiple call termination providers, a2b will select longest prefix match, even if another provider with a shorter prefix match offers a lower call termination rate.


Frequently asked questions.

  • Q. I'm a complete idiot in VoIP, can I use your VPS service?
  • A. No, you need an IQ of at least 100 to use our service.

  • Q. I want to use your virtual server service, how do I get started?
  • A. Open an account with us, add funds to cover server setup and monthly price and contact us with VPS installation request, let us know which version of a2billing do you want. When it is installed, we provide you with server IP address and access information. Configure VoIP account settings on our web site:
    • CALLERID: set to blank
    • HOST: Your VPS IP address
    • PORT: 5060
    You are ready to go. The remaining funds on your account will be used for our call termination service. The monthly payment $30 will be charged to your callwithus account on 1st of each month, if your account balance is low and you will not top up it till 7th, the server will be reclaimed. The first monthly payment is prorated, if you ordered a server on 20th, the monthly charge for the current month will be $10.

  • Q. How much RAM and HDD space are provided?
  • A. VPS has 512M RAM and 10GB HDD space.

  • Q. How many simultaneous calls VPS can hadle?
  • A. About 20 calls. The number of simultaneous calls is limited by the available memory.

  • Q. Which version of asterisk and asterisk2billing are preinstalled?
  • A. Asterisk 1.4.18 and a2billing 1.3.4. You can upgrade/downgrade the installed software as you wish.

  • Q. Where the server is located?
  • A. San Jose, CA. The server is located in the same datacenter as sip.callwithus.com.

  • Q. Can I use other call termination providers?
  • A. Yes, you can use as many call termination providers as you wish and do LCR over them.

  • Q. In which format should I create provider's rate deck to upload to the system?
  • A. We recommend the following format:
    dialprefix;destinationname;sellrate;initblock;billingblock;buyrate;buyinitblock;buyincrement
    With this data you will get accurate calculation of your expenses and profit. Buyrate field must present in the file, server does LCR based on buyrate. You can use excel or openoffice to prepare the rate deck and save as csv file with semicolon as fields delimiter. Initblock and billingblock values are in seconds. When upload the deck make sure you specified a correct fields order. Here is an example of csv file:

  • Q. Where on the server are the website files located?
  • A. /var/www/localhost/htdocs.

  • Q. Can my customers sign up to my service online, or I have to add customers manually?
  • A. Customers can sign up to your service online, the sign up URL is /A2Billing_UI/signup.


  • Q. Which level of the VPS support do you provide?
  • A. We provide free support within 1 month after VPS setup to help you setup and configure the server. We expect you should be comfortable enough to manage the server yourself after that.

Fine print: All prices are final, there are no bogus fees and unfees. Period. Only SIP devices that have already been created can be connected to sip.callwithus.com to make calls. Please ensure you only use devices approved by you (Please do not try and connect using two tin cans and a piece of string as we do not yet support this, but we may support this in the future, the work is in progress and preliminary results are positive). Callwithus.com monthly subscription charge of $0 must be paid in advance and does not include tax of $0 which also must be paid in advance. You will be billed an activation fee of $0 plus tax and this must be paid in advance. Calls made incur tax at the rate of 0% each month and must be paid in advance.
